Tickets booked!!!!

So my mother and I officially have tickets for the knitting and stitching show in London in March!!!

We’ve booked onto a cable knitting workshop. My mum loves cable knitting and I’ve never done it before. So I’m looking forward to increasing my knitting skills πŸ™‚ It will increase my options for patterns.

Exciting times ahead!!

More baby patterns….

So while I was in street on Saturday I may have found a knitting shop. I may have also left with 2 new knitting patterns and the relevant wool to make them… oppss..

To be fair my husband was there and said it was ok…

For both these patterns I’m knitting the largest size. I’ve got no idea how long they will take to knit, so I do want to make sure Lily fits in it when I’ve finished… she is growing so quickly!

Pattern one:

Knitted in DK. I’m going for the main colour and pink glitter and then white glitter for the outside. The pattern looks pretty simple to knit, and the previous Stylecraft pattern was a really nice knit.

Pattern two:

Knitted in baby DK. This is a cardi with a hood with ears. Proper cute πŸ™‚ and I can’t wait to see Lily in it. I don’t think it will be massively complex, but equally a good knitting challenge.

While we’re on the topic of knitting, I though I also better update you guys on my current WIP progress…

I’m about 1/2 way now on the blanket. So we’re making some good progress. This WIP comes out while Lily is sleeping or getting cuddles with our lovely friends or relatives! I also got almost an entire row of rectangles done on the way to Street on Saturday πŸ™‚

Lily is also doing well. She is now so much more alert and is starting to really pay attention to bright lights and faces. Apart from now… as she’s currently napping on nana!

This is a really cute pic of her from last week in an R2D2 onesie we brought her from mothercare πŸ™‚

Baby shopping

So I have brought myself a total of 1 outfit and about 6 million for Lily… I can’t help it. Baby clothes are just so cute!!

I wanted to show you some of my best buys and some of my favourites from the last few days.

So these were from Tesco…. I’ve not been able to walk past their baby clothes without buying anything for months now… They quality is good, the designs are adorable and the price is pretty good too.

These are for now:

And this one is for when she’s a little bit bigger.

We then went to Street (near Glastonbury, UK) yesterday. The purpose of the visit was to buy suits for my brother in laws wedding in April – they are all going to look amazing! – but I did take the opportunity to buy lots of baby clothes πŸ™‚

M&S outlet store, for when she’s a bit bigger:

Gap outlet store – also for when she is a little bigger:

These were from an adorable boutique store that just sells organic baby clothes.

Although the organic thing wasn’t the selling point. We just both loved the range of clothes on offer. We did buy stuff for later on in the year though so she gets full wear from them. These were a little more expensive…

This one is for next autumn:

These are for over the summer:

Thinking the rocket onesie will look fab with a pair of dungarees πŸ™‚ We have some really cute ones for when she gets a bit bigger πŸ™‚

I may have also brought some knitting patterns and yarn… but I’ll fess up in another post…

Baby apps and Trying to Make Sense of Things

With these broken nights of sleep, I have less separate days and more periods of just being awake.

Like many people, my Smartphone is absolutely chock-a-bloc with apps. Yesterday we had a friend and her baby over for a catch up and she recommended a few apps for me to help keep track of Lily based information on my phone. It’s actually a little bit insane how much info you can keep track of.

Downloaded an app called ‘baby tracker’ that literally records everything. What and how much they have drank, nappies and what was in them, how long they slept for and how much milk you’ve managed to express. You can also record any milestones etc and set alarms for feeding, nappy changed and sleeping. Although, I don’t think I’ll use the alarms as Lily seems pretty good at telling me when she’s hungry or uncomfortable. She’s also sleeping pretty well. It will be useful to keep track of progress and to be able to accurately answer questions from Health Visitors.

In addition, she also recommended the ‘Sound sleeper’ app. I’ve not actually tried this one out yet. But it essentially has loads of white noise sounds that we can play to the baby to help her settle. Apparently the hairdryer noise is almost guaranteed to work with my friend’s son – which sounds very odd to me. I’ll have to sit down and figure out what works best with Lily! Although currently just having the TV on helps settle her…

So continuing with this app theme, I thought I’d have a nose through other apps to see if I could use them to help solve my other issues. With constantly having to run around after Lily (small babies apparently need a lot of attention!) I’m struggling to find time to keep myself hydrated and have time to eat something healthy (I had an entire box of Jaffa Cakes for breakfast)….. Β The problem with this is I’m then struggling to deal with the sleep deprivation and struggling to produce enough milk.

With the hydration issue I’ve downloaded ‘Hydro Coach’. You decide how much you need to drink in a day – I’ve set 100 fl Oz as my target because I need to keep hydrated enough to produce enough milk to express. The perk of this app is you record your drinks as you finish them and if you haven’t recorded a drink in a certain period the app alerts you to remind you to drink. So hopefully that should start to make a difference!

I’ve also downloaded Milk Tracker as a separate app to keep track of the milk I express. I’m hoping that I can start to see the amount I express will increase as I start to work out how to look after myself better.

It’s odd, I seemed to have figured out how to keep Lily fed and with a clean nappy and completely forgotten how to look after myself… Why is that suddenly so hard? Any tips on how to balance it all out would be very welcome!

So currently enjoying lots of visits from friends and family. I use those times where Lily is getting hugs from others to attempt to get some knitting done. I’m glad that the blanket doesn’t require any counting!!

Planning my first major day out away from Lily for March – I go back to work in April, so we need to get her used to being away from me. My husband has an event at the end of the month (EGX Rezzed gaming festival) and so I thought I’d have a look at knitting events in London this year. There is the knitting and stitching festival in March that I currently have my eye on. I’m planning on going up on the Sunday – if anyone else in the UK planning a yarnΒ themed escape that weekend?

Baby update

So currently I’m cuddling with a sleeping baby Lily on the sofa. I was permitted to get some sleep last night in addition to a shower and breakfast this morning – so onto a win.

*writing pause while I get up to make a cup if tea one handed*

So Lily is doing well. She’s growing really well and changing every day. Although sleep still seems to be the theme of the day.

We also managed to get Lily in the tank top I knitted for her… It fits!!

I also managed to get a little knitting done on the blanket while Lily was getting cuddles with Nana.

So making some slow but steady progress there. But hopefully it should be done before Lily is out of nappies πŸ™‚ It’s going to be used for the pram and the shade of red matches perfectly!

Hows everyone else’s projects going?

Home time!!

So bubs (aka Lily) is now a week old. I seriously can’t believe how quickly the time has flown by!!

For those of you who weren’t aware, we’ve spent the last week in hospital. Initially that was because I lost 2L of blood after delivery and they needed to keep me in for observation. Then about Wednesday they gave Lily a chest xray because her resps were high. They then found out she had a chest infection in her right lung. So then she got put on antobiotics for 5 days.

Thankfuly on Friday we got the all clear that the infection markers had gone. So it was just a case of finishing the treatment last night. We’ve now been given the all clear and can actually head home!

We’ve been in NHS Poole maternity hospital in Dorset. The maternity staff down here have been exceptional. We’ve been so supported through all of our questions and any issues we’ve had. Both the pre, delivery and post natal teams have been amazing and there is nothing else we could have asked of them.

The problem is that the powers that be want to close Poole maternity unit (with both emergency capabilities and a borth suite) and just have Bournemouth – where most of these facilities would need to be built.

Day 6 update

I’m not going to lie, the last week has been a bit of a blur. My last clear memory is watching X-files last Saturday the sofa.

Lily has grown already over the last 6 days. She’s getting past the newborn stage and now more young baby. But she is definately getting cuter every day.

Feeding has been an interesting challenge. Lily, being a 9ib 2oz baby to start with has been pretty hungry! As a result we’ve ended up feeding her a mix of formula and breast milk. The breast pump has been a bit of a lifesaver in that regard. It means both my husband and I can feed her, we know how much she’s getting and how hungry she is. Lily also hasn’t figured out how to latch on and tends to fall asleep instead!

As you can imagine, we have a lot of photos πŸ™‚ She’s  the first grandchild on both sides – so she has some very excited grandparents with camera phones!!

In terms of knitting, I managed to get a little of the blanket knitted last Sunday while waiting for the induction. However not  a lot else has happened with this one as the 24 hours of waiting became 3cm dilated to born in 8 hours!

This week I’ve also managed to cast on and knit a couple of rows of another square. So I’m taking that as my win for the week!

Most of my time seems to be spent with 1 arm being monopolised by Lily (who I think has claimed it as her own), feeding her or changing nappies (fyi newborn nappies really smell!!). Any time she’s sleeping in her cot I’m also sleeping!

Loving this time with her while she’s still so small. It’s so nice being able to just cuddle her.

Wondering if I’ll get much more knitting or sleeping time….
